Governance

Bylaws

The official governing document of Black Talon Motorcycle Club.

Version 1.1 · May 2026 · Internal Document

These bylaws constitute the governing document of Black Talon Motorcycle Club (BTMC). Upon adoption, they supersede and replace all prior bylaws, rules, policies, and interpretations, whether written or unwritten. All members are expected to comply with and uphold these bylaws.

Article I — Identity, Purpose & Core Values

1.1 Name

The name of this organization is Black Talon Motorcycle Club, hereafter referred to as BTMC.

1.2 Nature of the Club

BTMC is a motorcycle club formed and operating within the virtual world of Second Life. The club exists as a structured brotherhood centered on riding, community, and shared values. While BTMC maintains social and recreational aspects, it is governed by defined leadership, expectations of conduct, and internal order.

BTMC is not a democratic organization. It is a brotherhood led by clear executive authority, supported by appointed leadership, and strengthened by the voice and participation of its members.

1.3 Purpose

The purpose of BTMC is to:

  • Participate in and host motorcycle ride-outs and club events
  • Build lasting bonds of brotherhood among members
  • Represent the club with integrity within Second Life and among other motorcycle clubs
  • Maintain a stable, respectful, and drama-resistant club culture
  • Preserve the continuity, reputation, and identity of Black Talon MC

BTMC exists to ride together, stand together, and uphold a standard of conduct that reflects positively on the club and its members.

1.4 Core Values

BTMC is guided by the following core values, which apply to all members when acting in the name of the club:

Respect: Members treat one another, guests, and allied clubs with dignity. Differences of opinion, background, or experience are handled without hostility or degradation.

Honor: Members act with integrity, keep their word, and conduct themselves in a manner that reflects positively on the club. Personal actions do not undermine the reputation or unity of BTMC.

Brotherhood: BTMC is built on loyalty, mutual support, and shared responsibility. Members look out for one another and place the health of the club above personal ego or faction.

These values are not slogans; they are expectations.

1.5 Authority & Leadership Model

BTMC operates under a single executive authority held by the President, who is also the owner responsible for the club's assets, branding, and financial obligations.

  • Holds final authority over all matters affecting BTMC
  • Is non-voting
  • Is not subject to removal
  • Appoints executive leadership positions
  • Bears responsibility for the continuity, stability, and direction of the club

Executive officers serve to assist in the operation of BTMC and act under authority delegated by the President. Authority may be delegated, but responsibility remains with the President.

1.6 Member Voice & Participation

BTMC values the voice of its members. Members are encouraged to participate, contribute ideas, raise concerns, and support the club's growth. Member input may take the form of discussion, advisory input, formal motions, or limited voting as defined in later articles of these bylaws. Leadership is obligated to consider member input and to respond in good faith, while retaining responsibility for final decisions.

Participation does not equate to control, and voice does not override authority. Mutual respect between leadership and membership is essential to the health of the club.

1.7 Representation

When wearing BTMC patches, insignia, or group tags, members represent the club as a whole. Conduct while representing BTMC must align with the club's values, expectations, and reputation.

Conduct outside of BTMC activities remains a personal matter, except where it directly harms the club, its members, or its standing within the broader community.

Article II — Membership, Standing & Brotherhood

This article defines who belongs, how standing works, and how movement in and out of the club is handled, without politics or ambiguity.

2.1 Membership Philosophy

BTMC membership is built on commitment, compatibility, and mutual respect. Membership is not automatic, not guaranteed, and not a right. It is earned, maintained, and protected in the interest of the brotherhood.

BTMC recognizes multiple membership classifications, each with defined expectations, privileges, and limitations. Advancement between classifications is intentional and based on demonstrated fit with the club's values and culture.

2.2 Membership Classifications

BTMC recognizes the following membership classifications:

  • Support Member
  • Prospect
  • Patched Member
  • Associate Member

Each classification exists to support the health, stability, and long-term integrity of the club.

2.3 Support Members

The BTMC Support Group is open to friends, allies, and individuals who support the club and wish to participate in ride-outs, events, and social activities. Support Members may enjoy involvement with BTMC without any obligation to pursue patched membership.

Support Members who wish to apply for membership must submit an application to leadership. Only Support Members who submit an application are considered Membership Candidates and are subject to membership eligibility requirements and timelines.

  • May attend ride-outs, events, and social activities
  • May wear approved BTMC Support insignia
  • Do not hold voting rights
  • Do not hold leadership roles

Eligibility to Apply: To be eligible to apply for membership, a Support Member submitting an application must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Second Life account must be at least 30 days old
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must not have been a member of another motorcycle club within the previous 30 days
  • Must comply with BTMC values and conduct expectations
BTMC does not patch over members from other motorcycle clubs. A minimum separation period of 30 days is required before applying.

Support Period: For Support Members who submit an application, the Support period is 30–60 days, measured from the date the application is submitted. The Support period may be shortened or waived at the discretion of the President.

2.4 Prospects

A Prospect is a Membership Candidate who has met eligibility requirements and has been accepted into the Prospect phase by leadership. The Prospect phase is a 30-day evaluation period and exists for mutual confirmation of fit, commitment, and readiness.

  • Must actively participate in club activities
  • Are required to use Discord for communication
  • Must be able to ride a motorcycle in Second Life
  • Will be assigned specific tasks to complete during the Prospect period
  • Must wear approved Prospect patches and insignia without exception during all official BTMC activities
  • Do not hold voting rights
  • Do not hold leadership roles

The Prospect period may be shortened or waived at the discretion of the President.

2.5 Patched Members

Patched Members are the full members of BTMC and represent the core of the brotherhood.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Are expected to uphold BTMC values at all times while representing the club
  • May participate fully in club activities
  • May be invited to provide advisory input or participate in defined votes
  • May be considered for appointed leadership roles after 30 days of patched membership

Patching of a Prospect requires a defined approval process as outlined in later articles.

2.6 Associate Members

Associate Members are individuals connected to a Patched Member through a recognized partnership or relationship and approved by leadership.

  • May participate in club activities
  • May wear approved Associate insignia
  • Do not hold voting rights
  • Do not hold leadership roles

Associate membership exists to support inclusion without diluting governance or authority.

2.7 Good Standing

A member is considered in good standing when they:

  • Comply with these bylaws
  • Maintain respectful conduct toward members and leadership
  • Participate in club activities at a reasonable level
  • Do not have active disciplinary actions

Good standing is required for advancement, continued membership, and eligibility for consideration in leadership appointments.

2.8 Voluntary Departure & Return to Standing

A Patched Member or Associate Member may voluntarily leave BTMC while in good standing. A member who leaves in good standing may request to return to BTMC once. Upon return, the member retains their patched status but is subject to a 30-day probationary period. Approval for return is at the discretion of the President.

A second voluntary departure from BTMC is considered final. No further return, reinstatement, or re-patching will be permitted.

2.9 Alternate Accounts

Alternate Second Life accounts ("alts") of BTMC members are not considered members under any classification and do not hold rights, privileges, or status within BTMC.

2.10 Membership Review

Membership status, classification, and standing may be reviewed by leadership when necessary to protect the integrity, culture, and stability of BTMC. Such reviews are handled internally and respectfully.

Article III — Patches, Insignia & Representation

This article governs identity, authority, and representation. It protects the club's image, prevents misuse, and removes legacy ambiguity.

3.1 Club Identity & Ownership

The name Black Talon Motorcycle Club (BTMC), its insignia, patches, colors, emblems, logos, and related visual identifiers are the sole property of BTMC and are controlled by the President. Unauthorized use, reproduction, modification, or distribution of BTMC identity elements without express approval is prohibited.

3.2 Official Emblem

The BTMC emblem represents the club's identity, values, and brotherhood. Its design, symbolism, and authorized variations are defined and approved by the President. The emblem is not decorative artwork; it is a mark of affiliation and representation. Use of the emblem signifies adherence to BTMC values and acceptance of its authority structure.

3.3 Patch Authority

BTMC patches are symbols of membership status and standing. They are issued, approved, and revoked solely under the authority of the President.

  • May only be worn by individuals holding the corresponding membership status
  • Must be worn as approved and without alteration
  • May not be shared, transferred, or displayed by non-members

Loss of membership status requires removal of all BTMC patches and insignia.

3.4 Patch Placement & Wear

BTMC patches may be worn only on approved garments, including vests (cuts/kuttes), jackets, or approved full-body biker attire. Patch placement standards are established by leadership and must be followed without deviation unless expressly authorized. No additional back patches, rockers, or competing club insignia may be worn while displaying BTMC patches.

3.5 Membership Status Insignia

  • Support Members wear approved Support insignia only
  • Prospects must wear approved Prospect patches and insignia during all official BTMC activities
  • Patched Members wear the full BTMC patch set as approved
  • Associate Members wear approved Associate insignia

Former titles, expired statuses, or unofficial insignia are prohibited.

3.6 Representation & Conduct

When wearing BTMC patches, insignia, or group tags, members represent BTMC as a whole. Members must conduct themselves in a manner consistent with BTMC values, respect for fellow members, respect for other clubs and communities, and Second Life Terms of Service and Community Standards. Conduct that damages the reputation, unity, or standing of BTMC may result in disciplinary action.

3.7 Approved Alternatives

When wearing a full vest or cut is not appropriate for an event or setting, approved alternatives may be worn with leadership approval, including but not limited to a BTMC bandana, pocket flag or cloth, or approved pin or brooch. Approval is discretionary and situational.

3.8 Prohibited Imagery

No patches, insignia, graphics, or imagery may be worn or displayed in association with BTMC that depict or promote hate speech or symbols of hate, racism, sexism, or targeted harassment, anti-LGBTQ ideology, or extremist or exclusionary movements. Questions regarding acceptable imagery should be directed to leadership prior to display.

3.9 Use of BTMC Identity Outside the Club

BTMC identity elements may not be used for personal projects, commercial activity, or external promotion without express approval. Creators, designers, or vendors associated with BTMC may not reproduce or distribute BTMC patches, emblems, or branding assets unless authorized.

Article IV — Leadership, Authority & Appointments

4.1 Executive Authority

Black Talon Motorcycle Club operates under a single executive authority held by the President.

  • Is the owner of BTMC assets, branding, and associated properties
  • Bears full responsibility for financial obligations and operational continuity
  • Holds final authority over all matters affecting BTMC
  • Is non-voting
  • Is not subject to removal

Executive authority exists to preserve stability, protect the club, and ensure consistent leadership.

4.2 Role of the President

The President serves as the executive leader of BTMC and is responsible for:

  • Establishing and maintaining the club's direction and standards
  • Enforcing these bylaws and issuing binding directives
  • Appointing, supervising, reassigning, or removing executive officers
  • Delegating authority as necessary to ensure continuity
  • Representing BTMC in external relations and inter-club matters
  • Acting decisively in matters affecting safety, reputation, or club integrity

Authority may be delegated; responsibility remains with the President.

4.3 Executive Officers

Executive officers serve to support the operation and administration of BTMC under the direction of the President. Officer roles, titles, and scopes of responsibility are defined by the President and may evolve as the needs of the club change. Authority exercised by officers exists within the scope of their assigned duties and delegated responsibilities.

4.4 Officer Structure

Executive officer roles may include, but are not limited to:

  • Vice President
  • Sergeant-at-Arms
  • Secretary
  • Recruiter
  • Road Captain

This list is illustrative. The President may establish, modify, merge, or dissolve officer roles as operational needs require.

4.5 Vice President

The Vice President serves in an administrative support capacity, assisting with coordination, organization, and duties as assigned by the President. The Vice President does not serve as a successor by default and does not assume executive authority unless expressly designated by the President.

4.6 Sergeant-at-Arms

The Sergeant-at-Arms is the highest authority in matters of security, enforcement, and immediate risk mitigation.

  • Maintains order at meetings, ride-outs, and events
  • Protects members, guests, and club property
  • Enforces conduct standards and bylaws as directed
  • May take immediate action to neutralize threats, griefing, or safety risks

Security Override Authority: In matters involving immediate security, safety, or reputational risk, the SaA may issue directives or take action that temporarily overrides administrative decisions made by any officer. This authority is limited strictly to security and enforcement matters, does not constitute general command authority, and requires post-action reporting to the President as soon as practicable.

4.7 Road Captain

The Road Captain is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of official BTMC rides.

  • Leads ride planning and preparation
  • Manages calendar coordination and ride notices
  • Serves as designated ride leader with authority scoped to ride execution
  • Coordinates with the Sergeant-at-Arms during ride-outs

BTMC may designate multiple Road Captains and/or Tail Gunners. One Road Captain is identified as lead per ride.

4.8 Secretary

The Secretary supports organization, continuity, and institutional memory within BTMC.

  • Maintains bylaws and leadership documentation
  • Tracks attendance and participation (informational)
  • Records meeting summaries and action items
  • Organizes and updates club documents as directed

The Secretary role is administrative and supportive, not directive.

4.9 Recruiter

The Recruiter supports the growth and integrity of BTMC by guiding prospective members through the Support Group and Prospect phases.

  • Manages initial contact and engagement with prospective members
  • Guides candidates through the Support Group and Prospect process
  • Delivers documentation, tasks, and reference materials to candidates
  • Distributes group invites, patches, and insignia as authorized

Recruitment is a mutual evaluation. Membership decisions remain with the President, not the Recruiter.

4.10 Delegated Acting Executive Authority

To ensure continuity of operations, the President may designate an executive officer as Acting Executive Authority during periods of unavailability. Such designation may be standing or situational and exists to maintain alignment with the President's intent and the club's established direction. Delegated authority may be revoked at any time.

4.11 Member Motions & Leadership Response

Members may submit formal motions, concerns, or proposals regarding club operations or leadership conduct. Leadership will give due consideration to such motions and will respond with explanation or clarification as appropriate. Final decisions remain the responsibility of leadership.

4.12 Emergency Authority

In situations involving immediate risk to members, property, inter-club relations, or BTMC's reputation, the President or the Sergeant-at-Arms may take decisive action without prior consultation. Emergency actions are subject to later review by the President.

Article V — Meetings, Voting & Member Participation

5.1 Meetings ("Church")

BTMC meetings ("Church") are held in-world and via Discord voice, typically twice per month. Dates and times are announced in advance by leadership. Patched Members are expected to attend a minimum of one (1) meeting per month. Attendance via Discord voice satisfies this requirement. In-world attendance without Discord voice does not.

5.2 Special Meetings

Special meetings may be called by the President or a designated executive officer as needed, typically to address urgent operational matters, time-sensitive decisions, or issues requiring focused discussion.

5.3 Participation & Conduct

Meetings are conducted in a respectful and orderly manner consistent with BTMC values. Members are expected to allow others to speak without interruption. Leadership may moderate discussion to maintain focus and order. Disruptive behavior may result in removal from the meeting.

5.4 Voting Philosophy

BTMC utilizes limited voting as a structured means of gathering member input and confirming consensus in defined situations. Voting exists to support transparency, encourage member investment, and provide structured input to leadership. Voting does not exist to override executive authority or to create competing centers of power.

5.5 Advisory Input

Most matters brought before the membership are advisory in nature, and may include event ideas and themes, ride schedules and activities, non-critical procedural changes, and community initiatives. Leadership will consider advisory input in good faith and may adopt, modify, or decline suggestions based on the needs of the club.

5.6 Binding Votes

Binding votes are limited to specific matters that directly affect membership status or the foundational structure of the club:

  • Approval of a Prospect to Patched Member
  • Adoption of major bylaw revisions
  • Dissolution of the club

Binding votes are decided by a simple majority of eligible voting members present, whether attending in-world or via Discord voice. Final ratification of binding votes rests with the President.

5.7 Voting Eligibility

Voting eligibility is limited to Patched Members in good standing, unless otherwise specified. Support Members, Prospects, and Associate Members do not hold voting privileges.

5.8 Authority to Call a Vote

Only the President has the authority to formally call a vote. Votes may not be initiated, conducted, or recognized without the President's explicit call. Informal polls, straw votes, or consensus checks conducted outside a called vote have no binding or advisory standing. Discussion does not constitute a vote unless formally designated as such by the President.

5.9 Voting Method

Voting is conducted using an in-world digital voting board when available. Eligible voting members who are unable to attend in-world may attend via Discord voice and submit their vote by private message to the President, who will record the vote on their behalf. The President remains non-voting and serves solely as a neutral recorder for absentee or Discord-only votes.

5.10 Quorum

BTMC does not require a quorum for meetings or votes. Decisions are made by the eligible voting members present at the time a vote is formally called.

5.11 Member Motions

Members may submit motions, proposals, or concerns for consideration by leadership. Motions should be submitted respectfully and clearly. Leadership may accept, defer, combine, or decline motions and will respond with explanation or clarification as appropriate. Motions are a means of participation, not a mechanism to compel outcomes.

5.12 Records & Communication

Meeting summaries, decisions, or outcomes may be communicated to members via notices, Discord, or other approved channels. Leadership determines the level of detail shared, particularly where privacy, security, or personnel matters are involved.

Article VI — Conduct, Discipline & Due Process

6.1 Standard of Conduct

All members of BTMC are expected to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the club's values of Respect, Honor, and Brotherhood when representing the club. Conduct that undermines the safety, unity, reputation, or orderly operation of BTMC may result in disciplinary action. BTMC does not engage in retaliation, escalation, or performative enforcement.

6.2 Authority Over Discipline

Disciplinary authority rests with the President and may be exercised directly or through delegated authority, including the Sergeant-at-Arms for matters involving security, enforcement, or immediate risk. Disciplinary action may be taken with or without prior warning, depending on the nature and severity of the conduct.

6.3 Forms of Disciplinary Action

Disciplinary actions may include, but are not limited to:

  • Verbal or written warning
  • Temporary restriction from activities or roles
  • Suspension of membership
  • Removal of officer role
  • De-patching
  • Termination of membership
  • Banning from BTMC spaces, activities, or communications

No specific sequence of disciplinary steps is required. Leadership may apply the level of action deemed appropriate to the circumstances.

6.4 Conflict Resolution

BTMC expects members to address internal disagreements with maturity, restraint, and respect. Issues should be addressed privately and calmly. Members are expected to disengage from escalating situations. Leadership may be asked to assist or mediate when appropriate. Public arguments, factional behavior, or escalation are not acceptable.

6.5 Griefing, Harassment & Retaliation — Zero Tolerance

BTMC maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward griefing, harassment, and retaliatory behavior.

The only acceptable response to griefing or harassment is: Block  ·  Ban  ·  Report

The following are strictly prohibited: retaliation of any kind; use of weapons, combat systems, or aggressive HUDs; verbal escalation, taunting, or participation in harassment; acting individually or collectively against another individual or club.

Any member who engages in griefing, retaliation, or escalation — whether directly or verbally — will be immediately ejected and banned from BTMC, without warning and without appeal. BTMC does not confront griefers. BTMC removes them from relevance.

6.6 Emergency Action

In situations involving immediate risk to members, property, inter-club relations, or BTMC's reputation, the President or the Sergeant-at-Arms may take immediate disciplinary or protective action. Emergency actions may include suspension, removal from events, restriction of communication, or banning, and are subject to later review by the President.

6.7 Privacy & Dignity

Disciplinary matters are handled privately whenever possible. Members will not be publicly disciplined or humiliated. Discussions and decisions occur through private communication. Disclosure is limited to those with a legitimate need to know. This protects both the individual and the club.

6.8 Suspension

A member may be suspended for conduct that violates these bylaws or disrupts the operation or reputation of BTMC. During suspension, BTMC patches and insignia may not be worn, participation in activities may be restricted, and communication access may be limited. Suspension may be temporary or indefinite, at the discretion of the President.

6.9 Removal, De-patching & Termination

Removal of officer role, de-patching, or termination of membership may occur for serious or repeated violations, or when continued membership is no longer in the best interest of BTMC. Upon termination, all BTMC patches, insignia, and identifying materials must be removed, BTMC property must be returned or deleted, and former members may not represent themselves as affiliated with BTMC.

6.10 Appeals

Appeals are available only following suspension, de-patching, or termination of membership. Appeals must be submitted in writing within 30 days, must address the conduct or circumstances leading to the action, and must be respectful and factual. The President will review the appeal and may uphold, modify, or reverse the decision. All appeal decisions are final.

6.11 No Entitlement to Process

Membership in BTMC does not create an entitlement to progressive discipline, public explanation, or multiple appeals. Leadership retains discretion to act in the best interest of the club.

6.12 External Violations

Conduct that violates Second Life Terms of Service or Community Standards may result in immediate disciplinary action, independent of internal processes. BTMC may cooperate with Linden Lab or other authorities when required.

Article VII — Amendments

7.1 Authority to Propose Amendments

Amendments to these bylaws may be proposed by the President or submitted to leadership for consideration by Patched Members through a formal motion. Submission of a proposed amendment does not obligate leadership to advance, modify, or adopt the proposal.

7.2 Review & Consideration

All proposed amendments will be reviewed by leadership to determine alignment with BTMC values and structure, impact on authority, stability, and continuity, and necessity and timing of the proposed change. Leadership may revise, defer, combine, or decline proposed amendments as appropriate.

7.3 Ratification

Only the President has the authority to ratify amendments to these bylaws. Where appropriate, leadership may solicit advisory input or conduct a binding vote in accordance with Article V, but such input does not supersede the President's authority to approve or reject an amendment.

7.4 Documentation & Notice

Approved amendments will be documented in writing, will include an effective date, and will be communicated to the membership through approved channels. The most current version of the bylaws supersedes all prior versions.

7.5 No Implied Rights

Participation in discussion or review of proposed amendments does not create an entitlement to amendment, revision, or adoption. These bylaws exist to support the stability, integrity, and continuity of Black Talon Motorcycle Club.

Article VIII — Adoption & Effective Date

8.1 Adoption

These bylaws are adopted by the authority of the President of Black Talon Motorcycle Club (BTMC) and constitute the official governing document of the club. Upon adoption, these bylaws supersede and replace all prior bylaws, rules, policies, customs, or interpretations, whether written or unwritten.

8.2 Effective Date

These bylaws are effective as of January 1, 2026. From the effective date forward, all members, officers, and representatives of BTMC are expected to comply with and uphold these bylaws.

8.3 Member Acknowledgment

Membership in BTMC constitutes acknowledgment of and agreement to abide by these bylaws. Lack of familiarity with the bylaws does not exempt any member from responsibility or accountability.

8.4 Preservation of Authority

Nothing in these bylaws shall be interpreted to diminish or transfer the authority vested in the President as defined throughout this document.

Appendix A — BTMC Organization Structure

This appendix provides a clear reference for the operational structure and chain of responsibility within BTMC. It exists to ensure continuity, clarity, and confidence among members, particularly when the President is not present. This appendix is descriptive, not prescriptive. This oath is read aloud at patching ceremonies. It is controlled by the President and is not subject to member vote.

"I stand here today by my own choice and commitment.

I commit to honor this club through my conduct, my words, and my actions.
